Houghton Lake sits on the southern shore of the lake from which it takes its name. It is Michigan’s largest inland lake with 22,000 acres of water and 72 miles of shoreline. With this landscape, Houghton Lake promises a wonderful mix of adventure, relaxation, and opportunity.
Locals and visitors alike enjoy the variety of year-round activities Houghton Lake has to offer. Such as boating, swimming, and fishing (pike, walleye, bass, bluegill, crappie); a variety of fine golf courses; camping, hiking, and canoeing; splendid lakeshore sunrises and sunsets. The area also boasts miles and miles of groomed snowmobile/ORV trail network, plentiful game for hunting and is a popular area for mushroom hunters in the spring! Houghton Lake is notable for the annual winter carnival, Tip Up Town USA, which is held in January, as well as other annual activities.
