The Grayling area is famous for great canoeing and fishing on the AuSble River, snowmobiling, camping, and pretty much anything you love to do outdoors. Lots of people live here all year, and even more come to play for extended stays.
If you are looking for a second home, a lot for a cabin or considering all your options, your travels will likely take you past Camp Grayling, which is spread over 147,000 acres; much of the land is a veritable playground available for public access, including snowmobiling, hunting and fishing when not in use for training (which is most of the time). You’ll also find Hartwick Pines nearby. It’s one of the most-visited state parks in Michigan — and one of the few state parks not on a body of water.
The hospital in Grayling is part of the Munson Hospital system, delivering expert on-site care with access to all eight of system’s medical centers, health centers and hospitals throughout northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. Grayling Hospital is the largest employer in the county.
Grayling schools are part of the Crawford AuSable School District, a nationally and state awarded district with numerous awards, from Bridge Magazine’s “Academic State Champions” to U.S. News & World Report’s “Best High School” including being rated bi-annually by the Mackinac Center for Public Policy as a top 10% high school in Michigan.
