Nestled between North Down River Road and County Road 612 between Grayling and Lewiston, Lovells is a great place to live all year — and vacation any time of the year. It’s on the north branch of the AuSable River and hosts an annual bridge walk. Community pot-luck dinners are popular among neighbors in this township of fewer than 700 people. Cabins, motels, inns, a tavern and a grocery store make year-round living and vacationing easy. Fly fishing is great in these parts, as is snowmobiling and hunting. It might be small, but there are churches, recycling centers, and conservation groups making it feel like home to anyone interested in living in a genuine northern Michigan township.
