Natives, transplants and visitors love this region of northern Michigan. There are plenty of places to work, play, go to school, raise a family and retire.
Those born here have a tendency to stay here because they love the quality of life — and the views available from home or on the drive to and from work.
People who move to the region from elsewhere are lovingly called transplants. Before they put down permanent roots, they likely were referred to as downstaters. They’re welcomed with open arms, mostly because they are there to make life more fun for everyone around them and embrace the lifestyle that suits them.
Retirees are the luckiest of all because they get to enjoy everything that keeps and brings people to the area: hunting, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, hiking, golfing, and skiing whenever they feel like it.
Although the region is considered “Up North” to everyone familiar with it, there are excellent schools, hospitals, shops, grocery stores and big-box stores at the end of trails or edges of water. We’d love to help you fulfill your dream of playing here more often or putting down new roots.
